LUXe are the creative fantastics 'Mark & Mandy'
Together they create vast parades that seem to stream into this world from hidden portals and light up this dull realm with great stories suggested by the antics and postures of those peopling them. The colours and shapes alone are enough to fire off a round of pleasing synapses in the watchers, and yet there is so much more to their creations. I have been lucky enough to be a part of some of these great excursions. In a small town on the west coast of Ireland, we have put together parade 'happenings' on a stretch of beach between the mainland and a small island, a land that only appears between tides. There the audience became participants in an enactment where the lost farmer of semi-consciousness exploded into being in an ancient stone hut and led us all on a living dream involving flying seahorses and a herd of dancing star children all to an eclectic musical soundtrack which i attempted to mix whilst bumping along the seabed on an inflatable mandala.
I'm sure this must sound like a surreal story, yet it is actually factual reporting. This is art to me and Mark and Mandy are real artists not merely the 'brand' type of artist churned out by a society blinded by commerce with Andy Wharhol as the chairman of the board. I love Andy and his work, but it can be forgotten that this is just one tunnel reality, a view of reality as commerce and image, brand and branding. Enjoy the creative work of LUXe through a few of my photos and go on to explore further on their website. I feel their work to be 'crafted happenings', parade as performance art and theatre.
